Liberal Democrat candidate for Bridgwater and West Somerset Theo Butt Philip yesterday spoke out against extremism and intolerance.

Theo took to the stage yesterday at a debate hosted by the Bridgwater Mothers' Union. The Liberal Democrat candidate spoke about policies on the developing world, refugees, education, and the importance of local democracy.

The event highlighted the differences between the Liberal Democrats and the British National Party candidate. Neither of the other main parties was willing to confront the BNP and both failed to attend.

Speaking after the debate, Theo said "The BNP's politics are ugly and wrongheaded. It is our duty not to cower away from them, but to refute their dangerous and unpleasant ideas and show instead why Britain must remain an open, free and tolerant society."
